Since 1993 Heath W. Lowry has been the Atatürk Professor of Dltonıan & Modern Turkish Slııdies at Princeton I'niversity. Prior to that time he was a founding member of the Ilisiory Department ;ıt the Bosporus University in İstanbul (1973-1980),and a Senior Research Associate al Harvard University's Dıınıbarton Oaks Research Library & Colleetion in Washington. D.C. (1980-1983) Between 1983 and 1993 he established and directed the Institute Turkish Studies in Washington D.C Currently,logelher vith his position at Princeton University, he serves as an Advisor lo Enver Yücel, the Chairman of the Babçeşehir University Board of Trustees. İn January 2011 he joined the faculty of Bahçeşehir University as a Distinguished Visiting Professor. Since 2005, Heath Lowry has traveled extensively in northern Greece. The preseni study is the oııtconıe of those visits. Wherever fie has göne. he has been acconıpanied by Evliya Çelebi and his Seyahatname. As a resıılt ol" those travels,he has pııblished several books and numerous articles, ali of vhich reflect the debt ıe ovves the 171'1 centııry traveler. The present stııdy is intendcd as !ıis honıage to Evliya Çelebi and to the rapidly disappearing ı Mtonıan leuacy in northern Greece.
