Stefan Zweig, (born November 28, 1881, Vienna, Austro-Hungarian Empire [now in Austria]—found dead February 23, 1942, Petrópolis, near Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), novelist, biographer, poet, and translator, was born in Vienna into a wealthy Austrian-Jewish family. He studied at the Universities of Berlin and Vienna.
